24.01.1859 The Unification of Romanian Principalities.
Romanian+ Community Centre celebrated The Unification of Romanian Principalities.
Known as Ziua Unirii, Unification Day is always celebrated on January 24th.
Since the 14th century, Moldavia and Wallachia have been principalities in Eastern Europe. In 1859, Alexandru Ioan Cuza was elected as ruler of both principalities, creating the Union of Romanian Principalities.
The official name of the country after the union was The Romanian United Principalities.
In 1866, it was renamed ROMANIA and then the Kingdom of Romania in 1881.
Romanians and other communities, British and Bulgarians, participated in our event, tasted our traditional food, and danced to Romanian traditional songs – Hora Unirii.
We also made people aware of the high rate of Measles infections.
We offered them information in Romanian and English about symptoms, how to protect against measles, and how important the MMR vaccine is in keeping our loved ones healthy.
It was a great success; I am proud to be Romanian 🇷🇴.
Thank you all for all your help and support, the Walsall Council and Bloxwich Community Partnership, and all of the people with good hearts who helped make a dream come true!
